Making Connections

Making Connections: Making connection with a purpose was not something I gave much thought. Recently, God brought several people into my life that are big on making connections with a purpose and building relationships. The most important person would be my lovely wife. She sees every person she connects with as having some value to her. She has taught me that connecting with others and building relationships can have inherent benefits. There was a saying I use to hear growing up that went something like, “I scratch your back and you scratch mine”.

Establishing relationships with any other purpose than being emotionally and spiritually supportive seems

strange to me or more like taking advantage of the relationship. It often takes me a great deal of reflecting and self-convincing before I reach out to others for help. Do not get me wrong, I have asked for help in the past of my close family and friends. But I have rarely reached out to people with the purpose of helping me to build my business or network. By the same token I limited the relationship I intentionally established relationship with the purpose of helping another achieve their goals. Networking is not a strange concept to me, but it is one that has not been at the top of my priority list. Recently, several opportunities that have surfed in my life which are of great importance to me. And I am now coming to see how networking may help me to increase my chances of advancing in those opportunities.

Making connections with a purpose, building relationships, or networking seems to come down to the quote listed earlier. Meeting people and asking, “how can I help you?”. But also letting them know how they can help you. More importantly, one would want to keep track of their name, their business name, the services they provide, and their target group. You may encounter someone that can benefit from their services which in turn may lead to other making recommendation to their network to your services. It seems to me that networking is not just about taking, but networking is more about giving in order to receive. Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Are you making connections with a purpose? Are you networking? Whose business are you helping to build? Contribute to the manifestation of another dream achiever. Ready, Set, go!
